Anini Beach, The Great Beach to Visit in North Kauai
Anini Beach is a favorite destination on the north beach of Kauai. Anini is a long stretch of soft, sandy beaches with generally calm and warm waters. Anini is a great spot for swimming, snorkeling, sail boarding, and other sports that don’t require surf. Anini’s calm waters provide an exceptional location for all activities.
The shallow nearshore ocean bottom makes Anini a great beach to visit if you have kids. Anini Beach Park is also a snorkeler’s delight – here you may spot Hawaii’s state fish, the humuhumunukunukuapua’a (triggerfish) and uhu (parrotfish), kala (unicornfish) and other tropical fish.
The area’s consistent breeze makes for good windsurfing conditions, and it’s a good spot for beginners. At the western end of the beach (near where the road ends) there is a channel where the currents can be strong, especially when the surf is up, so it’s not a good idea to swim here.
Anini Beach is usually less crowded than Poipu or Hanalei and is really quite breathtaking. The Beach Park has multiple campsites with permits, shade trees, picnic tables, pavilions, restrooms and showers.
There is no lifeguard posted at Anini Beach, but is still considered to be one of the safer beaches on Kauai’s North Shore.
